What the Ian Stark Equestrian Centre did next

The Ian Stark Equestrian Centre is by no means finished. There are a number of developments we are working on, which include:


The excavation for and installation of the Glenburnie Outdoor Arena, which will be used as a stand alone facility and as a warm up arena for competition and training events. The surface will again be supplied by Martin Collins and there will be a walk through into the main arena. Work has started on this arena and it is scheduled for completion by 1st March 2014, which will allow us to run larger and affiliated events thereafter.


The procurement of a stock of affiliated standard show jumps, allowing for a course of at least 12 fences to be built for competition. An initial order has been placed and these jumps are due to arrive at the end of November 2013. We will run our first clear round show jumping competition using our new jumps on Saturday 14 December 2014.


The development of Arakai’s Field – a cross country schooling and competition facility with jumps of varying dimensions and difficulty being built by BE accredited course builder Tim Stark, with design by Ian. It is our aim to be able to run proper arena events the likes of which are currently only available in the south. This facility will be operational by Spring 2014.


The compilation of a full and varied fixtures calendar, with a balance of training and competition that is structured, targeted and meets the demands of a range of clientele. We also want to supplement our equestrian fixtures with more diverse activities, be it dog agility, rugby training or car boot sales, so if you have an idea for an event or endeavour please do get in touch to discuss!


The launch of a membership scheme, split between Founder Members and Annual Members. Benefits will include priority booking and entering for training and competition, discounted rates on facility hire and special purchasing/membership arrangements with a selection of local businesses. Sales of corporate advertising board spaces to be installed on the long wall of Sir Wattie’s School. Spaces are available at £300 plus VAT per annum or £1200 plus VAT for a five year term. Only approved boards 3x1m will be installed – we are directing advertisers to Advanced Signs in Galashiels to have their boards made up.


Completion/furnishing of the kitchen facilities, Jaybees Cafe and Murphy’s Meeting Room. We will be starting to offer refreshments and snacks at certain times on certain days imminently, and will gauge demand for expansion of our catering provision. More information to follow!


Expansion of our facilities for disabled riders, to be reviewed in conjunction with the RDA.
