Ian Stark's Cross Country Course Design

Course Design by Ian Stark

Ian Stark began his cross country course designing career in 2005, taking on the Novice class at Chatsworth when encouraged to do so by the Duchess of Devonshire and Mike Etherington Smith.

Ian now designs up to three-star level, with his biggest UK events being Chatsworth CCI*** and Bramham CCI***/CIC***. He will be taking on Blair Castle Horse Trials in 2014, ahead of designing his first Championship track there in 2015 for the European Championships. He also works at Hendersyde, Floors Castle and Allerton Horse Trials.

Ian also designs at three star level in Ireland, most notably at Tattersalls, and across the USA, including Richland Park in Michigan, Rebecca Farm in Montana and Galway Downs in California.

One day Ian hopes he will join the small group of designers who are working on four-star tracks, of which there are only six in the World. These events are the ultimate aim for the riders, the horses and – inevitably – the designers.
